How to keep beds cheap on the coast

The €10 public albergues (Vigo, Pontevedra, Padrón, Redondela, A Guarda) are first-come, so arrive by early afternoon in summer to get one. Private albergues cost a few euros more but can be booked ahead — worth it on the small-town nights (Oia, Baiona) where beds are scarce. Carry a sleeping bag for the municipal albergues, and cook in their kitchens to cut food costs.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest albergue on the Portuguese Coastal Camino?
The public (municipal and Xunta) albergues are the cheapest, at about €10 a night — found in A Guarda, Vigo, Redondela, Pontevedra and Padrón. They are first-come and cannot be reserved, so arrive early in high season.
How much should I budget for a bed on the coastal route?
Roughly €10 a night in the public albergues, and about €15–25 in private albergues and hostels. Small coastal towns like Oia and Baiona have only private beds, so budget a little more on those nights.
Are there cheap hostels the whole way along the coast?
Yes. Every overnight town from A Guarda to Padrón has at least one pilgrim albergue, mixing €10 public hostels with bookable private ones, so a budget bed is available at every stage.
