About this guide
This is an independent guide to the Portuguese Coastal Camino around Caminha and the river crossing into Spain. It is written and maintained by one person, Hugo. No Camino association, tourism board, albergue or transport operator has any say in what appears here.
Why this guide exists
Most Camino guides cover the whole route from Porto to Santiago in a few paragraphs each. The one place that trips pilgrims up — the Minho crossing from Caminha to A Guarda — usually gets a sentence, and often an out-of-date one. The official ferry has not run since 2020; what actually operates is a set of licensed water taxis with their own timetables and their own phone numbers. This guide starts from that crossing and works outwards.

Each route stage, town and logistics topic on this site carries the date it was last checked and a list of the sources it was checked against. This is not a promise — the site literally cannot be built if an entry is missing them.

Nothing is invented
No business, price, phone number or timetable appears here unless it came from a verifiable source. Where a figure is not verified, this guide says so rather than filling the gap with a plausible number.

Stale data is flagged automatically
Anything not re-checked for 30 days raises a warning when the site is rebuilt, so decay is visible instead of silent.

Water-taxi departures move with the tide, the weather and the season. This guide gives you the operators and their direct contacts precisely so you can confirm the day before, rather than trusting any website — including this one.
How this site is paid for
Some links to accommodation and experiences are affiliate links. If you book through one, this site earns a commission and you pay exactly the same price. That is the only revenue: there are no paid placements, no sponsored listings, and nobody can buy their way onto a page. Accommodation is ordered by area and by type — albergues first, then guesthouses, then hotels — never by what it pays.
What that means for you
The municipal albergue in Caminha pays nothing and cannot be booked online, and it is still listed first, because for most pilgrims it is the right answer. That is the test this guide tries to pass on every page.
Languages
The guide is published in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The three versions carry the same verified facts and are updated together — a correction sent in one language is applied to all three.
